The Firm

The Law firm now known as Armstrong Murray was established in 1956 by Ian Armstrong, a former Deputy Mayor of the Takapuna City Council.  Ian was joined in legal practice by his brothers Graeme and John Armstrong, and together they practiced as Armstrong and Armstrong for over 30 years.  The firm concentrated mainly on property development and conveyancing reflecting the growth and development of North Shore City.

In 1978, the Armstrong brothers were joined in partnership by Neil Murray and John Morton.  Alex Witten-Hannah joined the partnership in 1984. The expanded firm incorporated other areas of practice including litigation, town planning, business development and advisory, and estates and asset planning.  With the progressive retirement of the original Armstrong brothers, John Morton and Alex Witten-Hannah, Chris Davis and later, John Armstrong, son of Graeme, joined the partnership in 1985 and 1993 respectively.

Armstrong Murray has been based at 11 Anzac Street in Takapuna since 1964.  As a firm, Armstrong Murray has worked closely with North Shore City’s accountants and business leaders in the syndication of commercial and investment properties in Takapuna and also in advising local retailers in business and succession planning who operate from these premises.

During its 50 year history, Armstrong Murray has prided itself on its commitment to provide its services in a timely and efficient manner.  This firm has "marketed" itself on the basis of establishing long term relationships with our clients, such that we have dealt with several generations of families, and their associates. Our retention of clients is due to our ability to deliver our services to them in a manner that meets their needs and requirements, both in terms of timeliness, accuracy and value for money.

As can be seen from our personal profiles, Armstrong Murray is a firm which is committed to the North Shore and its community.  The partners in the firm are all North Shore born and bred, and have all had significant involvement in various levels of community service, including schools and sporting/leisure groups.
