Expressing milk or feeding baby at work

June 26, 2020

Q: I need to express milk or feed my baby at work – what are my rights?

Breastfeeding at workA: Your employer must provide suitable breaks and facilities for you to express milk, breastfeed or bottle feed at work.

These breaks are in addition to the minimum paid breaks you’re entitled to as an employee (unless you agree to use your paid breaks for this purpose), but they are usually unpaid unless you’ve negotiated with your employer and agreed otherwise.

Your employer is required to arrange a private space for feeding your baby or expressing milk, with a fridge or chilly bin to store expressed milk if needed.
