What should your Will cover?

December 1, 2020

If you’re making a Will or updating your existing one, here are the main details your lawyer will need to know:

  • Who you would like to appoint as the executor of your Will – this person will manage the distribution of your estate after you die
  • What assets you have – this would include things like money, property, shares, investment funds (including KiwiSaver), vehicles, artwork and jewellery
  • How you would like your estate to be distributed (i.e. who your assets should be given to after your death)
  • Who you would like to appoint as the guardian of your children, if applicable
  • Whether you would prefer to be buried or cremated and any wishes you have regarding your funeral
  • How you would like your digital assets (such as social media accounts) to be dealt with
